Dr. Nicole Webster
I am broadly interested in the evolution and development of phenotypes, and am currently at Clark University studying neural development in the marine polychaete Capitella teleta. I completed my PhD at the University of Alberta studying shell sculpture growth. During that time I spent most of the year in Bamfield collecting and caring for snails, especially my favourite Ceratostoma foliatum – the leafy hornmouth. My favourite field site is the remote Bordelais Island the most exposed of the Deer Group. Teaching at the BMSC is such a rewarding experience: I get to show off the wonder of Barkely Sound and marine biology to new students, let them hold it in their hands and see it with their own eyes. The small, short intense courses let me get to know my students as people, and explore the material with them.
