Dr. Katy Hind
|Dr. Katy Hind’s research examines the biodiversity and evolutionary history of seaweeds. In particular, she combines traditional and molecular classification techniques to gain a better understanding of algal diversity. One of her main research questions seeks to discover and describe new species of coralline algae. Due to their simple morphology, many corallines are impossible to identify in the field and there are few characters on which to base evolutionary relationships. As a result, coralline algae are one of the most understudied seaweed groups, and it is unknown exactly how many species live in Canadian oceans.
Katy is currently a Senior Laboratory Instructor in the Department of Biology at the University of Victoria.
