Ecological Models & Data

“I am a wildlife disease ecologist who studies the ecological and environmental factors mediating host-parasite interactions, mostly using math! I have worked on a range of study systems from sea louse parasites on Pacific salmon to gastrointestinal nematodes of barren-ground caribou. I am currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Calgary. My first visit to Bamfield was in 2005, and I have returned as a student, TA, and instructor for many years since. The inspiring surroundings and enthusiasm of students and staff keep bringing me back. Most recently, I have taught Ecological Models and Data with Dr. Andrew Bateman. Although that course involves a lot of computer time, we make a point to get outside and find the math around us. One of our favourite trips is out to Maben’s Beach along the West Coast Trail to see the wild sandstone sculptures and unique species in that wave-exposed site.” Dr. Stephanie Peacock
