Employment Opportunities

YOUR WEST COAST ADVENTURE BEGINS HERE!

Do you dream about working on the beautiful West Coast of Canada? Would you like to work for a small not-for-profit marine science centre that introduces clients to life-changing exploration and discovery daily? We are literally in the heart of the Pacific Rim National Park, in one of the most beautiful areas of Canada on the terminus of the West Coast Trail in the heart of Barkley Sound and the Broken Group Islands on the outer West Coast of Vancouver Island. Work in a setting where you are surrounded by awe inspiring nature and have access to amazing natural attractions, hikes and more in the spectacular community of Bamfield (population 200).

We value partnerships and collaboration and have seasonal term appointments in some departments, if you are looking for a summer or fall adventure, or want to experience a West Coast winter complete with storm watching.  Regardless of starting position, there are opportunities to learn and grow when you work with us. Some of our staff have been with us for more than 30 years, working in multiple departments, from housekeeping to becoming a foreshore skipper, shuttling our students on ocean field trips.

Being semi-remote in the region is coupled with a strong sense of place for those who join our team. Many desire to live in subsidized housing right on our property. We can provide very inexpensive accommodation which includes everything you need to live on the West Coast: a room, bedding, utilities, fully equipped kitchen, all pots/pans and dishes, internet, staff phone line and more.

We are committed to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive campus that is accessible to all and free from harassment, bullying, and discrimination. The BMSC recognizes that diverse staff and clients benefit and enrich our workplace and the broader community.

We are committed to removing barriers that have been, and continue to be, encountered by equity seeking groups, including women, Indigenous peoples, visible/racialized minorities, persons with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQIA+. We strive to recruit individuals who will further enhance our diversity and will support their professional success while they are here. Strong candidates will demonstrate awareness of issues relating to diversity and inclusion in the sciences and science communication fields including the need to make them more accessible to a broader range of students and audiences.
