Visiting Teaching Faculty Opportunity
Location: Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre
Come teach exceptional students in a hands-on coastal learning environment. Take advantage of a fleet of boats, an extensive flow-through seawater system, helpful support staff, and unparalleled access to diverse coastal habitats.
|Educational programs focus on marine and coastal environments, and include short programs for middle and high school students, multi-week courses for undergraduate and graduate credit, and multi-day workshops. BMSC has been the field station for award-winning teaching and world-class researchers for decades. BMSC is an important member of the local community of Bamfield and works collaboratively with the Huu-ay-aht First Nations, the Alberni-Clayoquot regional district, the RCMP and the Coastguard.
Our Fall Semester is an intense, immersion, marine sciences experience at the senior undergraduate level. We inspire investigation, promote critical thinking and offer opportunities for independent research. Three courses run in successive 3 1/2-week blocks while two courses extend throughout the duration of the program (4 September – 14 December). Classes are scheduled from Monday to Friday.
The Marine Population Ecology and Dynamics course, the second of three courses offered in series, explores fundamental theories in marine ecology at the population, community, and ecosystem levels of biological organization. Learning outcomes include the key ecological theories that have been developed in, and applied to, marine environments. Topics explored through projects and case-studies should include biodiversity, food webs, introduced species, at-risk species, ecological subsidies, historical ecology, indirect effects, fisheries, and population modeling.
