Cook and kitchen help positions at BMSC cafeteria

Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre is located in beautiful Bamfield, British Columbia. Our kitchen provides healthy innovative meals three times a day for our student, research and public education clientele. We strive to provide a “from scratch” culinary experience and excel at meeting the nutritional and dietary needs of our guests. The kitchen is well equipped, clean and fully functional with a dining hall (seating for 200) and a small conference centre (seating for 150) that is used for seminars, workshops and weddings.

BMSC is looking to augment our kitchen team for the upcoming season and has the following openings:

Experience in scratch cooking is a requirement for this position along with the capacity to make meal deadlines while maintaining a high level of food quality. Multitasking skills are critical to the success of this position along with experience in bread baking and dessert preparation. Preference will be given to candidates with catering exposure.   Pleasant, tidy, willing to learn and commitment are some of the attributes we are searching for. Applicants must be able to learn routines involved in preparing and serving food and to be able to follow both oral and written instructions.

Under supervision, engage in routine duties involved in preparing and serving food, washing dishes and in cleaning food service equipment. Desirable qualifications are: knowledge of kitchen and dining room work, good personal hygiene, sanitation and housekeeping practises along with experience in the operation of standard kitchen appliances and equipment. Ability to learn routines involved in preparing and serving food and an aptitude to follow instructions both oral and written.


Requirements:

  • Cooks and kitchen helpers must possess Food-safe Level 1 and all kitchen staff is required to work shifts (weekends, early mornings and or evenings).
  • All kitchen positions are unionized (Cupe 401) and members are entitled to benefits as defined in the Collective Agreement.  Positions are casual to start and may move to recurrent term upon completion of the contractual probation period.
